Adult Children of Alcoholics is an anonymous Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition program of women and men who grew up in an alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional homes.
We meet with each other in a mutually respectful, safe environment and acknowledge our common experiences. We discover how childhood affected us in the past and influences us in the present (see The Laundry List, and The Problem). We take positive action. By practicing the Twelve Steps, focusing on The Solution, and accepting a loving Higher Power of our understanding, we find freedom from the past and a way to improve our lives today. For more information, please view the official Adult Children of Alcoholics website. |
What goes on at a meeting?
We meet in a group, follow a script, read a series of core ACA documents (Steps, Traditions, Laundry List, Solution), read for 5-10 minutes from the "12 Steps for Adult Children" and then share. Afterwards we read the Personal Bill of Rights, Promises and a closing "prayer." What makes this meeting different than the others? Or similar? First off, it is very similar from most groups. Please come to several groups and see for yourself which ones are right for you. We all offer hope and strength for those that are still suffering. It is through sharing that we learn to love our true, authentic selves. |
